After searching and searching for a staged version of nightmare I came across the sad knowledge that Disney has never attepted one and that the creators of Nightmare Before Christmas veiw it as a near impossible task. Well, some of us disagree and Director Susan K. Morgan has done the impossible and has written it for stage. While staying true to the original story and characters, the musical has three additional songs and “What’s This?” has been doubled in length to create the knock-out show stopper.
New material includes:
Song “Sally’s Lament.” The song gives Sally’s character more backstory and more stage time to establish her personality.
Song “Oogie Boogie’s Rant.” This song happens in act one and gives more back story to this no-account Oogie Boogie character. The song answers the questions: What exactly is his relationship with Jack and the citizens of Halloween Town and why do they fear him so?
Song “Dead Man’s Party” from Oingo Boingo. Added as the song played while actors take their bow.
Scene added, “Jack’s House.” the relationship between Jack and Sally is barely hinted at in the film. How does she feel about Jack and is he really so self-absorbed that he sees right through her? This additional scene helps to better establish their friendship and Sally’s cryptic feelings for him.
